YMCA Educational Services (YES!)

At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income, or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

Why Adult Literacy Matters

39% of adults in Greater New Orleans function below a 6th grade level.

Many of them are unable to understand things like bus schedules, utility bills, and doctor and medication instructions.

Many adults have fallen behind and lack the computer literacy skills to succeed in the 21st century workplace.

How YES! Can Help

Do you know someone who struggles to read?
YES! is the only program in town with a special focus on adults who cannot read at all.

YES! provides free classes in the following:
• Reading & language comprehension
• Writing
• Math
• HiSET preparation
• Computer literacy
• Resume building
• Workplace literacy

Do you need your high school diploma?
YES! offers flexible year-round classes to prepare students for their HiSET diploma.

Need help with computer skills? YES! offers walk-in computer assistance to those needing help with job applications, resumes, and other tasks.

Community Benefit

For every $1 invested in adult education, a community receives $11 back in increased income, property taxes, and savings on welfare and legal system expenses.

Through adult education, we empower adults to teach their own children, participate in civic activities, and pursue better jobs.

We are building a stronger, healthier New Orleans.
