Thank you for participating! The Summer Fun & Reading Challenge 2023 has now ended. Check back next summer for more events, prizes, and reading fun.

Summer Fun & Reading Challenge at the New Orleans Public Library

How to Participate:

1. This year, there are three ways to sign up. Fill out a paper form in English or Spanish at your neighborhood Library location, register online at, or download the Beanstack Tracker app from the App Store or Google Play. With the Beanstack website or app, you can track your reading and activities from your phone, computer, or tablet. No matter how you register, don’t forget to pick up your registration prize at your neighborhood Library.

2. Read, complete activities, and log your progress on both, either online, in-app, or on paper. All reading counts: books, audiobooks, being read to, etc.

3. After reading 800 minutes and completing four activities (one from each list), visit your neighborhood Library location for the completion prize, while supplies last. The last day for completion and
picking up prizes is Monday, July 31.

Summer Events at the Library

Don’t miss the Library’s free summer programs for every age, from children to adults. From drawing classes to Summer STEM, we are especially delighted to host a full lineup of workshops and performers for kids, tweens, and teens.

Feeling Snacky?

All June and July, we’re offering free snacks for youth age 18 and under, courtesy of Second Harvest Food Bank. Snacks will be available Monday – Thursday, 2:30pm – 3:30pm at Alvar Library and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library.

Why Participate in the Summer Fun & Reading Challenge?

Libraries across the country host summer reading programs to encourage reading as a lifelong habit, maintain reading skills that children and teens have achieved throughout the school year, and increase interest in libraries. Also, it’s just plain fun.
