SNAP Assistance Returns To The New Orleans Public Library
November 10 Update: The New Orleans Public Library is delighted to welcome the Louisiana Department of Health back to the Library to provide SNAP assistance.
The availability of SNAP benefits is a rapidly changing situation on the state and federal levels over which the Library has no control. We will continue to offer assistance as we are able. Please continue to check our website and events calendar for updates on SNAP Assistance scheduling and availability.
Additional Resources, including food drives and pantries:
On October 31, the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) notified the Library that they would suspend SNAP Assistance at Main, Norman Mayer, Nora Navra, and East New Orleans Regional Libraries due to the government shutdown.
The LDH will provide temporary state-funded assistance to some SNAP households. Please visit the LDH website for details.
According to LDH, SNAP recipients must continue to meet all program requirements on time to continue their federal SNAP eligibility:
- Report Household Changes: Continue to report any changes to your household circumstances.
- Complete Paperwork: Ensure you complete simplified reporting or recertification paperwork.
- Submit Verification: Submit any requested verification documents:
- By mail to the LDH ES Document Processing Center, P.O. Box 260031, Baton Rouge, LA 70826;
- In person at any LDH ES parish office; or
- By fax to (225) 663-3164.
Any unused SNAP benefits as of October 31, 2025, will remain available on your Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card and can be used as usual.
