Support Your Library

Library Foundation of New Orleans

In May 2026, the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library and the New Orleans Public Library Foundation merged to become the Library Foundation of New Orleans (LFNO)This merger allows LFNO to pursue larger projects, secure new funding opportunities, streamline operations, and generally better support your New Orleans Public Library.

The Friends of the New Orleans Public Library began in 1957 as an all-volunteer organization raising funds to fill the gap where city funding ends. Its fundraising has mainly focused on individual donors and used book sales. The New Orleans Public Library Foundation was founded in 1990 to create a professional fundraising enterprise for the library.

From early literacy to lifelong learning, LFNO funds programs that meet people where they are:
  • Reading programs for children and families
  • Adult education and workforce resources
  • Cultural and creative programming
  • Scholarships to help New Orleans Public Library employees pursue masters degrees at the LSU School of Information Studies
