National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) – NAMI provides advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.
National Domestic Violence Hotline – Highly-trained advocates are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to speak confidentially with anyone experiencing domestic violence, seeking resources or information, or questioning unhealthy aspects of their relationship. Call 1.800.799.7233.
National Institute of Health – NIH’s mission is to research and apply knowledge about living systems to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability. Their website collects useful resources for a variety of health concerns and conditions.
National Library of Medicine – The world’s largest biomedical library, NLM maintains and makes available a vast print collection and produces electronic information resources on a wide range of health topics.
National Suicide Prevention Hotline – This national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you or someone you know is considering suicide, call 1.800.273.8255 or 911.
Navigators for a Healthy Louisiana – A free federally funded program supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services under the Affordable Care Act to provide free one-on-one assistance to Louisiana residents with applying for Medicaid or a Marketplace Health Insurance Plan, checking eligibility, and updating existing Medicaid or Marketplace plans. Navigators work in every parish of the state to provide appointment opportunities at convenient locations close to your home (local library, public health unit, community center, etc.) and at flexible times convenient for community members.
