Self-Service Options
If you’re unable to visit the Library during our open hours, we offer two self-service options to expand your access to books and DVDs: the Robert E. Smith Holds Locker and the Book Bot at our Desire / Florida Satellite Location. Of course, you can also access our digital resources 24/7, all day, every day.
Robert E. Smith Holds Locker
Located at the Robert E. Smith Library (6301 Canal Boulevard), the holds locker lets you pick up requested items outside of Library hours. Simply select “Robert E. Smith Holds Locker” as your pick-up location when placing a hold on any book, CD, or DVD, and voila! Make your way to Smith Library any day and time that works best for you, even when the Libray is closed.
Please note: the holds locker is only serviced during normal staff hours and wait times for holds to be prepared still apply. Once ready, your items will be held in the locker for 5 days.

Book Bot
The Book Bot is the New Orleans Public Library’s vending machine. It’s located in our satellite location in NORD’s Desire / Florida Multi-Service Center. The book bot is stocked with 235 books and DVDs for kids, teens, and adults. You can use it to check out and return items with your Library card.
Please note: A physical card is required to use the vending machine. You cannot type in your card number or use the digital card on your Library app.
