Mid-City Library Closure

Summary
Mid-City Library is temporarily closed due to facilities issues that the Library is working with the building’s owner to address.

Reopening Date
Mid-City Library will reopen to the public at 10am on Monday, May 16.

Alvar Library Renovations

Project Overview
This project includes termite remediation and renovation of the public bathroom. During this project, Alvar Library is closed for in-person service but offers contactless pick-up and drop-off.

Project Start Date
This project began during the COVID-19 pandemic before the New Orleans Public Library reopened fully to the public in 2021.

Reopening Date
A reopening date will be added when work is complete. We will update this page with the latest information.

Nix Library Closure & Renovations

Project Overview
This project consists of ADA-compliant facility upgrades, including the installation of a wheelchair lift and an accessible public bathroom, and building maintenance. Nix Library will be temporarily closed during renovations.

Project Start Date
Nix Library temporarily closed to the public on Monday, February 22, 2021.
Construction began on Monday, March 1, 2021.

Reopening Date
This project is expected to be completed in early 2022. A reopening date will be added when renovations are complete. We will update this page with the latest information.

Book Holds & Returns
During the closure, books on hold that are usually picked up at Nix Library will be sent to Milton H. Latter Memorial Library. You may also request to have them sent to another location for pick-up by logging into your Library account or by calling any location. Items may not be returned to Nix Library while it is closed to the public. Items may be returned to any other Library location.
