Take & Make Craft Kits

Pick up a craft kit for children to take and make at home. All Library locations have a limited number of craft kits containing an instruction sheet and items to create a craft. New crafts are available on the first Monday of each month. Additional supplies may be required and will be noted on the instruction sheet.

February is Black History Month. We’re making pocket constellations to celebrate the role that space and the stars have played in Black history, from the Underground Railroad to the 1969 moon landing.

NOLA Readers 2.0

NOLA Readers 2.0 is a club for second graders who love to read. This year our activities center on the book Small Shoes, Great Strides: How Three Brave Girls Opened Doors to School Equality by Vaunda Micheaux Nelson.

There are two ways to participate:

Field Trips:

Participating second grade classes will take field trips to both the Louisiana Children’s Museum and New Orleans Public Library’s Main Library.

We're currently accepting teacher signups. If you are an interested second grade teacher, fill out our interest form to book your free field trip.

At Home:

Check out Small Shoes, Great Strides from the Library. Then, print and download the activity book. Work together as a family to build reading and critical thinking skills.

For more information about NOLA Readers 2.0, read about the 2023 program on our blog.
