The Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience Joins the Library’s Culture Pass Program

The Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience is the Library’s newest Culture Pass partner, a service that gives cardholders free access to a variety of cultural institutions and attractions around New Orleans.

Cardholders who live in Orleans Parish and are 18 and older can now request a pass to the museum. Located in downtown New Orleans, the museum explores the many ways that Jews in the American South influenced and were influenced by the distinct cultural heritage of their new homes.

New Orleans Public Library Executive Director and City Librarian Emily Painton said the institution is a welcome addition to the Culture Pass program. Through exhibits, collections and programs focused on the unique and remarkable history of Southern Jews, the museum encourages new understanding and appreciation for identity, diversity, and acceptance –– a goal that Painton said aligns with the Library’s own mission.

“We’re always excited to gain new Culture Pass partners, particularly when they encourage visitors to embrace new perspectives,” Painton said. “The service was created as a way to break down barriers and provide New Orleanians access to information, within or outside the Library’s walls. By partnering with the Museum of Southern Jewish Experience, we hope our patrons feel empowered to learn something new about their region’s history, themselves, or their neighbors, with no financial burden.”

The museum’s executive director, Kenneth Hoffman, said they are thrilled to be the Library’s newest Culture Pass partner.

“This is a city of great museums. The New Orleans Public Library’s Culture Pass Program increases access to those museums, promoting participation and inclusion from our many diverse communities. So, as we always say at MSJE, ‘Shalom. Make yourself at home,’” Hoffman said.

Each Culture Pass admits up to two adults and four children to the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience and their public programs. Ticketed special events are not covered. Passes for all Culture Pass partners must be reserved in advance.

Other Culture Pass partners include Audubon Nature Institute, Hermann-Grima + Gallier Historic Houses, National WWII Museum, New Canal Lighthouse Museum, New Orleans Museum of Art, and Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Visit to reserve your pass today.
